The Press for infomation of my fellow-countrymen.

I have sent the following telegram to Tseung

Kai Shek on the 7th.

"You have no good ground for your recent expedition. You have crossed the rivers Yuen and Seung, and have attacked Wu-chang and Hankow. Of late, you have again disturbed my frontiers and invaded the south of Kiangsi which belongs to me. I well realize that the prolongat- ion of war will only bring an endless calamity, and contention for land and cities will merely cause misery to my people. I have made repeated declarations during the year past that my object is to safeguard my territories and to protect my people, and that I will

side with no warring Party. The reinforcements I have

recently despatched are merely intended to prevent

trespass of defeated troops, and have never gone beyond

the boundaries of my territories; and before their

despatch I have duly notified my fellow-countrymen in a

circular telegram. However, you have had no sympathy

with me, and have continued to press on me step by step. I cannot understand what animosity there exists between

the North and South, and what crime my people have

comitted that you are anxious to lay waste my land. (A part omitted). I am unintelligent, and I know no North, no South and no Party. I only know that I should love my people and protect my country. I can give any

concession that is in the interests of the people and
